well i have had some idel probs hear lately on my 88 2.3 it idels fine around 900 to1100 but when i rev the engine and let out it drops to 500rpm, stumbels and climes back to 900/1100 rpm? is this my iac? can i use carb clener or throtel body clener?

Yeah it could be a problem with the IACV among others. The IACV is very easy to check, it is mounted on the left hand side of the airbox, and comes off with three bolts. Another two bolts removes the solenoid from the valve body. Clean out the valve body and spring assembly with carb cleaner, use a small screwdriver and make sure the solenoid is free to move, a little light lube is good before reassembly (WD-40).

how do you test the ohms on a TAC? The chilton is very vage:bawling: i cleand it out very good today with throtel body cleaner but i still have a problem with the rpms dipping down to 500 and stumbling after reving or any light aceleration it isent a big deal but its anoying as hell. i think its guna stall out on me:icon_confused:

What value of resistance do you get across the coil, which is all the solenoid is. If the circuit is open then the coil may be burned out, there should be some resistance but not excessively high either. On the other hand I believe the IACV is used when the engine is cold, so if your conditions persists at all temps, the problem could be elsewhere.

yes my IAC is good. and the problem only hapens when warm NOT cold.i think it was my throtel body? i cleand it out i was very bad i dont think the iac or throtel body have ever bin cleand or changed. it was caked up about 1/8 the blade was not sealing good from all the gunk

Thats a lot of gunk in your TB. Make sure your vacuum lines are good as well, since your Ranger uses a Speed Density system for air flow measurement instead of a MAF sensor.
