im wondering what year ford rangers started using the electric switch for the 4x4, that you can use while driving?
what year rangers start coming with electric shift on go for 4x4

All generations of rangers have offered push button 4x4. I'm not sure if they were available since day 1, but I do know that 1st generation rangers and bronco had it.

You can shift a manual tcase on the fly aswell.
do you need to clutch when shifting the 4x4? sorry ive never owned one, and the manual shift 4x4 kinda makes me nervous on buying one with that option

The manual is widely considered as better and more reliable than the electric, you either need to have the clutch in or the transmission in neutral to shift into low range but you can go between 2wd and 4wd while driving. It is the exact same as what the buttons do except you move the 4wd shifter instead of pushing a button. Even with the buttons you have to have the clutch in or be in neutral to go into 4wd low.

You also have to be a complete stop to enguage 4lo with either manual shift or electric shift. But yes in and out of 4x4 hi you can do while driving w/o having to enguage the clutch.

thought i better add that in just incase someone didn't understand and thought they could go 2hi-4-lo while moving. You can do it but it makes some great sounds for a second or two
good info, helps a bunch. so basically only to get into 4low i have to be stopped and clutch in, or in neutral? Now would if Im in 4low and want to get back to 2w or 4w hi?

you have to stop and put it in neutral and shift just as if you were shifting into 4 low.
Yes, when doing any shifting from or to 4 low you should be at a stop with it in neutral (or the clutch in, I don't think it matters).

i owned a 86 bronco 2 that was pushbutton also owned a 84 and 85 bronco 2 that were manual.
