Hey guys, both myself and friend are having problems with the transmissions on our 89 Rangers. Both trucks are 2.9L 4x4s with Automatic transmissions.
So here is problem number #1:
I want to start by saying that all my forward gears work perfectly. The truck recently had a transmission flush along with a new filter. When you put the truck into reverse it will just sit there. If I want it to move I have to rev the engine to about 1500rpms before it start to engage. Then when I let off the gas it binds, or seems to, and slows down very quickly. It almost seems as though the parking break is on...
So here is what I have done so far. I drove it up on a hill and put it in neutral, the truck rolled backwards with little resistance. I then did the same procedure while the truck was in reverse and at idle. It rolled the same way with no binding. This basically tells me that the parking break is not sticking or catching.
So my question to you Rangerettes is what should I try next? Is this a simple fix?
