water proof snorkel?

hey i am looking to built some sord of snorkel for my truck...but i can't figure out a way to prevent water infiltration at the top of the snorkel. i look at the safari snorkel head...but it don't look pretty safe to me...what does you guys have done for that problem? thx again

Me and my friend built one on his 76 F-150 that went thro the firewall and into the cab. It looked pretty good but we never went to home depot to get the connector to hook the carb to the snorkel, and thats why the truck is sitting in his backyard w/ a hydro locked motor lol

And Ive been through shallow water and hydrolocked... Its all about the speed you hit the water at.

Ok so question. Do you have to do a lot of other prep work to wiring and water proofing under the hood? like ingnition coils and all that stuff when you put a snorkle on? I really want to make one but am afraid :sad:

lol. Is there also the chance of cracking the block from sudden temp change?

First get all your breather tubes up as high as you can. Make sure all your seals are good in anything that has lubricant in it. Have electrical connecters coated in die electric grease. Run a bead of RTV around your dizzy cap and run a breather tube off the cap also as high as you can. Make sure your ECU is water proofed or mounted as high as you can get it. Mine is in Tupperware. Also an electric fan is a must if you get deep often as you can turn it off and not blow water and mud all over hell. Not to mention chew up the radiator.
As for temp changes I have repeatedly dunked mine in all sorts of temp differentials with no adverse effects. For example up to temp engine into water slush while -10*F out.

yeah..i won the snorkel for hiting water at high speed..and it to prevent the water splash to get in the snorkel head...all those setup look like a big splash of water can get into it...am i wrong or they really get the job done....?thx again guys
