i would just like to add a little to the hi/lo beam mod. Just recently i did this mod and noticed that my wiring is a little different then what is stated in the tech article. Not much different but it can throw you off and to save anyone the hassle of melting wires and blowing fuses i figure i would share this.
Now i have a 91 standard cab short bed ranger with a 2.3L and a 5 speed. The only difference in the tech article and my truck is that the high beam wire is NOT light green with a black stripe. My hi beam wire is solid purple, however there is a green wire with black stripe in the wiring harness, but to make sure of your actual hi beam wire look at wear the wires go into the connector (pigtail) for the head lamp bulb. There will be 3 wires, a black (which is your ground), a red w/ black stripe (this is your low beams), and either a solid purple (in my case) or a light green w/ black stripe.
I did a little research into the wire diagrams between different years and it seems that the 88-91 have the purple wire and the 92-97 have the light green with black stripe.
I hope that this was somewhat helpful and that it be poseted in the headlight upgrade section.
