well i went hunting at my local junk yard and found some cool shit like this header of a 90s model 2.3 ranger. i dont know wut year for shure, but i was wanting to know when i swap it onto my 1988 2.3 were i can put my o2 sencer at? can it be placed below the header to pipe flange?

I hooked my EGR to the one that you have on there now, and I've read posts on here where you just need to drill and weld another bung for the O2 sensor...mine doesn't have one so I was able to bolt it right on and hook it up...
 
umm ok well the newer model manifold dose not have a 02 bung on it. the pipe that bolts up below the header has a bung on it about 3" below the flange can i hook it up thear or will it have to be on the header?

Well, if you have that part then, yes...that's another way to do it...the right way, actually...just means you have to splice that piece into the pipe before the cat...or replace the old system with a newer one...

I was going to suggest that exact thing but the first way is how I've seen it done...and IIRC the post where I saw it done was by someone who was particularly handy at welding...so they did it themself instead of paying someone else to do it...

Exhaust parts are generally more expensive than having someone do a minor weld though...and you should be able to otherwise bolt on your existing exhaust to the manifold...that's another reason I liked that mod so much...direct bolt-on
 
yea if possible i would say just drill and weld a bunge into the pipe after the header. works fine.
 
ok i just needed to know if the placment of the o2 would efect the efi or not i am certified tig and stick my dad has bin a pipe liner for 22 years so its no bigge to weld somthing in the yard or barn(regneck garage) would it be beter to weld it to the colecter on the header? i want wats best for performance. i also guted the factory cat, then split it half. then i got a piece of strate pipe and put the halves back over the pipe.welded it all to gether so it lookes like it is doing its job but it realy is a dumbie cat hehe:icon_thumby: folowed by 21/2 pipe in to a flow 40 or i have a dynomax ultra flow wich ever i feal like at the moment of welding time:icon_welder:

if you have the pipe tht went to the header then it should of had the bung in it but if not i would say tht fixing a bung onto a piece of pipe is easier that drilling then welding a bung onto a cast piece of header pipe
 
Powerwagon................I'm diggin up your old thread. I've heard rumors about these "factory headers", but I don't know much about them. Do you know what years they were used?

I'd like to try a set on my 1983 2.0 4 banger. Should bolt up from what I've read. Have you installed yours? If so, how did it work.

yea i was wanting to do this also, i was gonna get a set of headers from a 90s ranger then sand and spray it high heat black, notice any sound or power difference? thanks
 
These "headers" are not tuned headers as the pipe length varies. Many say there are just pipe manifolds. Just adding the header will probably do very little. The outlet on these things is very small, around an 1.5 inches. To get a benefit from any header, the entire exhuast system has to be matched.

There is a bung-hole :icon_rofl: on them, mine had two, now that I think about it...I put a bolt in one and used the other for the EGR...

The biggest effect I found was that the front end was considerably lighter. Since I didn't bother to weigh either manifold I have no idea how much lighter...only that I could hold the newer one (I think these were stock on 93 and up 2.5 engines, btw) and bolt it on but needed help holding the older unit in place to attach it...

No, I'm pretty sure he means he just put a bolt in it to seal it up... You usually have to weld on a Oxygen Sensor Bung...
