spun rod bearing on sportbike

I need some opinions on what I should do with this ZX-9R that I have. Every other thread that I have tried, I get an answer from some one that is reading out of the shop manual. I have had many things answered here back when I had my FX4 Level II and I know that there are a lot of motor guys on here. I know that there has also been a few people on here that have spun a bearing.

So with that said, I bought the bike with the spun bearing pretty cheap. The kid tried to run from the cops and when they caught up to him the bike fell over and starved the number 2 cylinder and ran for 10-15 sec like that. I have check the crank with a mircometer and it is within limits spec. by the book. There is no discoloration on the crank and it looks like the rod bearing took all the damage. So would you say that the crank needs to be replaced because the dealership said that I had to, or go ahead and replace all the bearings and run it?

You trust the dealer? If it's within spec and looks OK, I'd put in new bearings and run it.

I'd rather risk have the crank eat another bearing than buy a crank I don't need. If it eats another bearing, then you'll know.
 
Make sure all the oilways are clear in the crank, then run it.

There's a good chance (unfortunately) the dealer is just trying to sell you stuff. AND also to protect themselves, in case (maybe not you) someone comes back, pissed as hell because the dealer told them the part was good and it actually wasn't. In which case I would be pissed off just like this theoretical person in the example :icon_rofl:.

If the crank spec'd good, no discoloration, I'd run it. If I did anything to it, I'd take it to the machine shop and do a very light, quick polish on it. Just to make sure there's no burrs/rough spots or anything. Then clean 'er up and run it.

Have the crank checked and possibly trued up if needed. It'll be good.
 
If the journal is in spec it should be okay. If it were me, I would still take it to a machine shop to have the journal polished. Better safe than sorry. :beer:
 
Slap some new bearings in it, and SELL it! :D
