i am in the process of rebuilding a 8.8 4.56 gears tracklok diff with a alternating method of rebuilding i got everything in bolted up clearanced the ring gear, now my problem is the pin is getting caught up on the ends of the axle shafts just a little bit, and that was with the axles out as far as they could go with the c clips on. now can i grind some material off the pin? or do i have to remove the track lok take it apart and remove the two shims in the sides behind the clutch pack? shims were the size that came in stock.

When I did a rebuild on my explorer a couple years ago, I had the same problem. All I wound up doing was to (VERY CAREFULLY) remove material from the end of the axle to allow the pin to clear it. Only thing is....remove material slowly and do not allow the axle to heat up too much.

I know I may get flack for this, but it worked and I never had a problem with this.
