I have a 2000 Ranger V6, 3.0 manual, 135K. Had a P0306 come up lately. Thought I had it fixed with new plugs, wires, check fuel cap, compression test seemed in close range to each other. Im going to start next with the vacuum hoses etc.., Anything else I should be looking for before considering
a new head gasket?
Started running rough ( or stuttering) yesterday, little bit of white smoke from exhaust. Now the Engine light is back on.
Any advice???

is PO306 cylinder misfire on # 6 cylinder? a dirty or bad injector could cause a misfire on that cylinder.

A Bad Coil pack can also trigger this. Check for current on this spark plug wire. If the spark is weak or none change the coil pack.

Yeah the P0306 is a misfire in #6. I'll give the injectors a look this weekend, thanks.
A new coil pack was installed 'bout 6 months ago. Could it be faulty?

yes a electrical parts go when they feel like it, some last 3 yrs some last 3 days. just depends.
