computer module for 4.0 sohc

I have a 2006 4.0 sohc that I do a lot of towing with. I have a 5 speed auto tranny with 4.11 gears and the trailer I pull weighs about 4800lbs. I was thinking of installing a computer module from Jetchips for a little more pulling power. Does anyone have any experience with this item and is it worth the bucks.

Jeebas, that's a heavy trailer for that truck. Are you sure your axles/diffs/tranny can handle it?
 
im pretty sure you can only tow about 5500 to about 5600 at max with that truck or atleast that the specs im finding. i know my truck wont and its a 06
 
seeing that you only REALLY get about 5 -10hp instead of so called 14 -17hp and it cost around $250 that's about 50 - 25 buck/hp. It is somewhat worth it. but my guess is you won't notice much of any difference...I say keep your money. (my opinion)
 
Thanks for the imput. I've been pulling this trailer for a couple of years now. I'ts a 24 foot Coachman travel trailer and it's 4400lbs. dry and about 4800lbs. loaded. Shut the overdrive off and it cruises pretty effortlessly at 3250 rpm's. That's about 70 mph. Could use a little juice going up hills though. It drops down to about 60 mph going up a good grade. By the way, I did buy the module from Jetchips. I'll keep you guys posted as to how it works out.
 
4800 lbs is a nice little jag behind the ranger. I'm sure you have a brake controller in the truck, but just out of curiosity, how is stopping power?
 
It stops on a dime. The trailer braking system has a sensitivity dial on the control box in the cab. If you set it to agressive you can actually lock the trailer brakes up,(nice smoke show). I also tow turf tractors and other turf equipment for my empployer and I found that towing anything over 2500lbs needs trailer brakes, otherwise you add a little excitement to your day.
 
Ohh yeah man I agree with you there. Our company does a lot of work for banks and we haul ATM's which weigh about 1500 lbs a piece, and sometimes we haul up to 4 at a time, and night drop boxes which sometimes weigh up to 6000 pounds. Heaviest one I've ever messed with weighed about 7000 pounds. Our method of transporting them; load em on a trailer and strap them down really good. I have a lot of experience with towing really heavy stuff and really rely on those trailer brakes and that brake controller..lol. I was just curious about how the ranger stops trailers since neither of mine have the tow package.
 
try the diablo sport tuner it is an awsome set up , im running a trailer brake system, cold air, cat back, and jba headers with the tunner and it made a big difference i usaly can pull just about anything in it size with in reason. but this summer im going to definetly up grade the tranny cooler to a b&m fan cooled one.
 
Well, I put the chip in and noticed a differance right away. Noticable increase in power from idle up to 5000 rpm. Then I installed a cat-back exhaust with a Flowmaster muffler and duals. I like the power increase but my mpg took a hit. I went from a steady 20 mpg to about 18. How it pulls my trailer has yet to be determined. I'll find that out in about 3 weeks
