I have a '94 extended cab with manual tranny. In recent weeks I have had no problems with the tranny. Then today, I mysteriously have no second gear. I can shift into all gears(including reverse) except 2nd. It feels as though the shifter isn't even trying to engage. The clutch seems to be responding normally with the other gears with no slipping or grinding. There are no noises and the truck simply coasts at this point. I am not a mechanic but this seems to be acting like part of the linkage has come off or loose. The truck has set idle for a while during bad weather. I dont think this caused the problem but it might have contrubuted to it. Do I have a linkage problem or is this a sign of a more serious issue inside the tranny?
Me too. Mine a 1992 2.3 manual that has no 2nd gear. It just feels like there's a brick wall there. I'm going to take mine apart when the spring time comes.
