My rear axle has been a little leaky for awhile (A quart a month) and now it howls at me even when it's full. Right now it has 3.08 gears, on 16 inch mustang rims.

what is making it howl...

Now about the locker... I found on craigslist a 28-Spline 4-Clutch Posi traction Rear end for an 8.8 out of a 1993 Mustang Cobra. NEVER USED
I was wondering If it will fit in my ranger. It also comes with a Differential Cover with bolt up areas for an anti sway bar. Would this be worth the $300 he's asking for it.

It's probably howling due to bad bearings. If it's been doing it for a while the gears might also be bad now.

that was my thought. was it leaking from the pinion seal or the diff cover? if it was from the pinion you could have a bad pinion bearing, but if it was leaking from the cover you probably have a bad pinion bearing and bad carrier bearings and possibly bad axle shaft bearings. sounds like its time to learn to rebuild a rear end or swap it out for another one.
