Hey guys. I just got my 94 Ford Ranger XLT, 4x4 (4.0 v6) on the road. It's a pretty nice truck. It has about 302k kilometres, but mostly highway driving from the previous owner. The truck was maintained well and has very little rust.

I'm looking for a throatier sound from the V6. I don't want anything too loud, but deeper and louder is what I'm looking for. I just ordered a Thrush Welded muffler from Summit. It's cheap and hopefully it works and isn't too crazy loud.

The plan is to get the old muffler off, get an adapter from 2" to 2 1/4", attach the muffler, then get some extra pipe/turndown from the outlet end.

Any idea if I'll get much benefit from that setup?

Who wouldn't benefit from getting some new muff on their ranger, especially if throaty sounds are involved?

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

LOL @ Dean!

I've run a Thrush on my Ranger a couple times (I've never tried the welded one, just the cheap folded steel one, usually lasts about 2 years before it rots out). It's a lil more throaty and loud than the stock muffler, but nothin exciting.

I have a Flowmaster 40 series on my choptop and IMHO, it sounds decent. Nice chug at idle and it gets louder when you get on it, but not overly loud. IMHO, it's a nicer sound than the folded Thrush I've used on the Ranger.

Haha awesome. Well, I'll see how the new "muff" works. I'll probably post a video once I get it installed. It should be here in about 5 days or so.

I hate exhausts. I would never touch one that wasn't leaking or hitting the axle on bumps. If you want sound, upgrade the stereo and play engine noise. The 4-row radial on a Korean War era Corsair would be an awesome soundtrack.

glass packs FTW

+1
If it's not a V8, you don't want to hear it. Even if you do, nobody else does. :annoyed:
