Who has been to a National Park with their 4x4 and how would you rate the experience? It doesn't have to be a national park just anywhere like an off-road gathering too.:3gears:

Old thread, I know, but...
I go to the Daniel Boone National Forest just about everytime that I go anywhere, and I would rate it at a 3/5 on the scenic parts, 3-31/2 out of 5 for the trails, as I have run them so many times that I can tell you where you are over the CB, which way/where to trun to get to a particular spot, and roughly how long it will take you to do a certain trail/obstacle depending on your vehicles build, and maybe your driving, if I have seen it. I still love to go there, regardless.

A national park would be crazy with your 4x4. How would you get gas though?

You fill up before you go... and if you really think you're going to be spending alot of time there driving, you bring extra gas cans...

I went up to Roosevelt Nat'l forest with my pickup, it was a fairly easy drive for a stock pickup, though I would have liked to have a small suspension lift and some better tires, but it was manageable... sucked having an auto though coming down the mountain... had to keep it in 4 low and 1st so I didn't have to use the brakes...

Death Valley. Lake Mead. Lake Powell. Just a few off the top of my head. AAA+ 4wheelin'!

Yeah, take plenty of gas with you there! Usually there's a station halfway close but you might not afford it.

At Yellowstone they have gas stations... and they are very proud of their gas.

A couple years we went out there and while we where getting gas at a full service station there in the park, and the lady was telling dad that she thought there was a neat gravel road and that our Explorer could probably make it up. Since we had a LONG drive home and didn't want to risk the family conestoga they didn't go for it so I can't say if it was or not.

Most of my offroading involves deer hunting at my grandfather's farm... and it varies wildly from year to year depending on the weather. Come to think of it I don't think any of my rigs have been to national park, only state parks.

When I was there I don't think it was too expensive, maybe $0.15 more?

I had a few trucks and my motocycle to Denali but you really cant go past Savage river(mile15)without applying for a lottery permit and if its not snowed in the 4 day window you can go all the way to Wonder Lake (Mile 85). Otherwise your a tourist on a bus. We do have loads of trails just outside the park boundary but you have to have badass toys to get near them, the Stampede Trail is a pretty easy run for built trucks its where that dumbass kid from Into the wild died. We have no shortage of trails here but you better have your shit and your rigs shit together or your toast.

Up here in the Pacific North West we have at least 1 trail that goes for 50 miles (from naches wa. to greenwater wa.) and it ain't no logging road it's a JEEP trail with hill climbs ,water hazards and 4500' elevation -the forest rangers build small bridges and we ride it alot!

Have you ever done the whole run? That would be a neat trip report I bet you get some awsome views through there.
