I've had this problem on my rear drum for a while. Every morning, I turn the truck on and drive off, but the first couple of stops, my rear right tire would lock up and screech. It would eventually stop doing this after a while, but would come back the next morning. So I decided to open it up, and to my surprise, the rubbers on the brake cylinder were leaking a LOT of brake fluid. So got it changed, two weeks later, the other side starts doing this. I give it two weeks before taking it apart, and to my surprise, there is nothing noticeably wrong. No oil leaks. Now, my question is, besides the Cylinder leaking oil, what else could cause this? I am still going to change the cylinder because I know that even the littlest amount of brake fluid will cause my brakes to lock up. But just in case that doesn't fix the problem, what else can cause this?

Your brake shoes are absorbing moisture out of the air while it sits over night. Quite a common thing with rangers for some reason. After you use the brakes a few times they warm up and dry out and work fine. Not sure what you can really do about it.

had that happen to me. but the cause for me was the e -brakeit just would lock up on me. so i disconnected it

Yep!! The Rangers are known for the rear drum to rust over night and lock up.Mine use to bump in the morning when pulling off, after that no problems until the next morning.I changed my brakes and drums and a year later no problems. I have a 2004 Xlt 4x4 Extended cab.

Yes, my right rear brake does the same thing. Posted in another thread, I just changed the brake fluid out in my 2002. The right rear bleeder had the worst gunk in it and the initial fluid coming out was pretty bad. I'll see how the brakes work now with new fluid. I don't know if that will help the wheel lockup issue, but it certainly won't make it worse.
