Now, I feel this is too vague for any particular forum, so I threw it here.

So, im trying to change Lube filter brands, however it doesnt seem that any filter manufacturers will actually admit the actual size of the filter media (as in size of particles the media will allow to pass).
They spout off about filter efficiency, but I dont seem to be able to find anything that says "such-n-such a filter has 40 micron filter media" or so on.

Anyone else know?

Im currently running Fram, but contemplating Baldwin.

Okay, so I think that after 12 hours of research I will be getting a Baldwin B2-HPG filter.
6 micron media.
And I will be running Castrol Syntec 5W-30

Fram is really a cheap oil filter. Their media for a PH8 is around 198 sq in. 247 sq in for the Tough Guard. Motorcraft, Pure One, and Puralator are made by the same company, but are one of the best. Pure One & Motorcraft filters offer 400 sq in of filter media and the lower than 20 micron needed.

There was a website where they took all the major brands and cut them up to find the truth.

I just started useing these filters and their 5/30 xl oil little more pricy but they say i can go to 7500 mi per oil change it equils about the same amount of money in the ling run

For some reason, Amsoil refuses to have most of their oils tested by the standard independent agencies. For that reason alone, I'd put my money in one of the more common synthetics like Mobil 1. At 7500 miles, you're not pushing either one as long as you get the oil sampled occasionally.

I have noticed this too Im still wirry about it, i have herd some horror stories with them but that was back in the late 70's and I have herd some success stories ???? still makes me belive that oil is oil, and filters is where it counts
I do however use the one that is api certified (I just had to check for sure)

Baldwin filters are top-shelf.
Go to the forums at www.bobistheoilguy.com for more info than you can probably use.

Motorcraft or Mobile 1 filters.
