Hey Everyone! I have a 87 ranger 2wd and I finally picked up a 88 turbo coupe motor, harness and computer for it.

I'm going to be useing the ranger harness for it. I know I have to add the wiring for the (VAM) (Boost control) (ACT) from the TC harness But I'm having some trouble figuring out exactly what I need to do about the other wires that dont mach up? I'v read "DaveR's 2.3 Turbo Swap Page" It was very helpful! I'm just not sure what to do with this part of the wiring :dunno: If anyone has any info that might help me get started I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks everyone :)

BTW This place is great!

I did the same thing with a 90 ranger. Now mine was dual plug DIS so that part was a bit different. But your 87, with it's TFI ignition should actually be almost an exact match to the TC stuff. On mine I had to change about 8 pins and add a few new wires for the VAM, Fan Control and Boost Control (there may have been others).

The easiest way to figure out how to do it is to buy the EVTM (electrical vaccuum troubleshoot manual) for each vehicle on ebay. They're usually just a few bucks. www.rangerpowersports.com has some complete wiring diagrams for the ranger and turbocoupe. If you go over to www.turboford.net there is a guy who maintains a website with all kinds of 2.3 swap info. I think his website is something like www.rothfam.com or something. Lastly, go to www.stinger-performance.com and read his detailed write up about putting a 2.3T in a 87 NA 2.3 mustang. That should pretty much exactly the same swap you're attempting.

And if I did it over again, I wouldn't waste my time with the boost control solenoid stuff. If the TC had an auto computer, it'll only run 9 PSI max to protect the fragile A4LD regardless of whether the boost control switch is set at premium or regular. You'll quickly become a boost addict and want more. So save yourself the wiring hassle and just get a boost controller from www.boostvalve.com. The single setting one will work fine and allow you to run enough boost to blow the head off the engine if you wanted.... I just keep mine set at 16 psi due to my 35 lb/hr injectors running out of fuel after that.

Found it!

Hey :D just wanted to let everyone know that I did some more searching and

found just what I was looking for! Its complete step by step instructions

on the 2.3 turbo swap
It also has step by step instructions for Repining

the Wire Harness. It says it's "specific to the 91-93 LX Stang's receiving the

'87-88 TC computer and VAM harness." but I think the ranger harness is the

same as the Stang's. I'll post as soon as I findout if their's any difference

between them

Here's the site!

Hope this helps everyone else doing this swap! :icon_thumby:
