I have been having the same problem with my POS 2.9 since I have had my BII....Many of you know, but for those who don't here goes....when I drive my BII for 30 mins or more, it begins ticking like hell, smells of gas, runs like it isn't hitting on all cylinders, bogs down and so on.....I have replaced the distributor cap, rotor button, spark plugs, wires, TPS, Map sensor, coil, and distributor module.....here is my NEW question....I was told by my mechanic that I need to have the lifters replaced and that would take care of my problem....is that or could that be true?:icon_confused:

I have the same problem it ticks ungodly and after awhile it slowly goes away then comes right back again

That's very possibly the case... Just replacing the lifters will be a band-aid though... Usually was happens when they start ticking is the cam bearings start wearing allowing lower oil pressure to the upper valvetrain... If you really want to get rid of the ticking I would suggest an entire valvetrain refresh... My 4.0 ticks slightly... I couldn't begin to tell you about the other problems... I'd check and make sure you haven't cracked a head, when my 2.9 cracked a head it would run good until it warmed up, then it would miss like everything and be terribly down on power...
