well, ive started to mount/dismount my own tires, and now i have a small collection of junk tires. i dont want to pay $3-5 to have the tire shop take them, im cheap. thats why i mount my own. i'm not looking for suggestions like 'throw them in somebody's pond in the middle of the night' or 'burn them in a bon fire' i'm looking for a legal and free way to get rid of tires. maybe a tire recycler or something along those lines. anybody have any ideas?
 
here we have county clean up days where they take hasardous materials and so on. they limit tires to no large truck tires though.
 
Local recycling center maybe, mine locally still charges the tire company rate though.
 
I cut the sidewalls out of mine with a utility knife right along the edges of the tread. My garbage man will then take them. The reason for tires not being alowed in landfills is it causes air pockets that resurface. If the sidwalls are cut off everything lays flat. You will be surprised how easy they cut up. This is how I've be getting rid of tires for years now.
 
Sell them as boat bumpers and soles for sandals on ebay and craigslist.
