My daughter just gave me back our 1999 Ranger XL, the handle that is used to recline the seat back is broken off. Its the 60/40 front seat. If you have ever looked at one, it is broken in two places. The handle itself is not broken, just the part controls the reclining part. Its plastic, one part is the arm that the cables attach to as well as the pin where it goes into the reclining mechanism. Has anyone found a fix. I'm trying the glueing thing, thought about reforcing it with fiberglass mat and gell. Ford wants $150 for the parts, have to buy the entire reclining mechanism, and the junk yards want to sell you the entire front seats set for $250, if you can find one that was not tore up in a wreck.

My 97 Ranger did the same thing,I use a small pair of vise grips, not perfect but functional.:fie:

Gotter her fixed, went junk yarding Saturday and found the part I needed. Cost me a whole $2.15 plus a $1 to get in the pick-n-pull yard. Replaced the entire recliner piece on the left side of the driver's seat. Tell you one thing, there aren't many 98-2001 Rangers in the junk yards that I visited. Found like 3, with only one with the front seat still in it.

Huh....guess I should have done a search here first as I just posted the same problem for my 98 ranger. Had an overweight person try to use the passenger side handle as a foot bracket getting into the truck...same thing...handle is fine it's the plastic tube that is busted. So it's only the 98-01's that will work? Do you have a part number? Thanks.
