Does anynody know how to drain the gear oil in a 9in. rearend? I see a fill plug to put the oil in but I can't find a drain plug. Also I can't put a tube in the fill hole to suck it out because it just gets blocked. So do I have unbolt the center chunk and drain? Is there a gasket that goes there? :icon_confused:

I'll continue searching. Just thought I'd ask here first.

Thank you.

Well it looks like I have to take the chunk off and buy a new gasket. Why didn't Ford put a drain plug on this? :pissedoff:

Oh well I've been in deeper:bsflag: than this before.:D

He just said he can't get a tube in, it hits something (carrier/gears etc) inside. I'd pull the third member then drill and tap the housing for a drain plug while you have it apart.

draining the oil on a 9 isnt much fun gotta pull the 3rd to get it all out. But if you can get it high enough ive seen guys remove one axle shaft and tilt the whole dif to one side and drain it out of the axle tube.
