Hitch and towing weight questions

I have a 93 ranger 4x4 3.0 5 speed. I have a chance to get a hitch off a 98 for $40, will this work on my 93. Also what is the max towing weight on my truck?
 
i would be careful about the hitch off a 98+ truck. thats the year ford went to IFS on the ranger and made many changes to the frame, mostly in the front...but possibly in the rear too.

your owners manual will tell you what your truck can tow. if you dont have one, tell me your tire size and axle ratio and ill look in mine. its probably around 3,000lbs.

MAX TRAILER WEIGHT BASED ON GCWR

REG CAB 4X2 AUTOMATIC ALL AXLE RATIOS
2.3L=2180
3.0L=2540
4.0L=6000

SUPERCAB
2.3L=2100
3.0L=2420
4.0L=5720

REG. CAB 4X4 AUTOMATIC ALL AXLE RATIOS

3.0L=2300
4.0L=5720


SUPERCAB

4.0L=5560
4.0L WITH FX4 PACKAGE=5220
 
GCWR isnt the only number to consider. gear ratio, auto or manual tranny, engine size, ect. heres the 4x4 5 speed page out of the owners manual:

My numbers come from my 2007 owners manual and it doesn't specify the gear ratios for each one it just says all ratios in every category but i just put that up for a basic guidline i wonder why it doesnt specify the gear ratios

Go down to page 18 and you'll see the gear ratio breakdowns.
