Quick question, if this sensor was potentially damaged, what would be the effected? How would the the motor react?

timing and fuel mixture would change....

in most cases, you will have driveability problems either when the engine is cold or when the engine is warm...depending on which way the sensor failed.

wouldnt cause a high idle would it?

engine temp should not matter, it may think the cold coming in is denser than it is or not a dense. thus to much fuel or not enough fuel along with a small timing adjustment
