Hey everybody!
Lately I've been having issues with my ranger's idle speed. It starts up, runs and drives fine, but sometimes it starts to idle higher than normal. It usually does this while driving whether its cold or fully warmed up. Sometimes I'll notice it after its been lugging in second or first gear, I'll go to shift up and I have to wait a long time for the idle to come back down, other wise im treated to a jerky shift :annoyed: Since I dont have a tach and the radio is usually up it sucks because it takes me by surprise. Anyways, like i mentioned earlier it does it while its moving, when I come to a complete stop it will drop down to its normal idle. What controls this thing's idle? I'm not getting the check engine light so I'm hoping this is just a bolt on issue.. What do you guys think?
Thanks for your help!
Derek

oh, it doesn't have cruise control if that helps..

replace pcv valve

I'll add those things to the list when I change my oil, its so damn cold out here that i dont want to work on it unless i have to lol.
Thanks mtn & 97.

Also check this

I saw that the vacuum hose going from the valve cover to the air plenum was rotted. I changed mine with a piece of washing machine hose (it's all I had lying around) it worked fine and no cost. I had to lube it to get it on though. I also cleaned the AIC and these things made a huge difference.
