first off what auto tranny comes in the v8 awd 1997 explorer? what transfer case will bolt up to it so i can get rid of the awd case? thanks for any info

4R70W is stock in the AWD 5.0L Explorer. You can either get an adapter extension housing kit from Advance Adapters for the stock RBV transfer case or you can bolt up a full size case like a BW1356 or BW4406. The F/S cases may cause some clearance issues though.
