fuel pump noise in CB radio

i have my squelch at 3/4 the way up. i have a hard time hearing some radios,

the setup: cobra 19 ultra III, power filter, 9" pa horn, 5' wilson fiberglass whip, and external speaker.

my fuel pump interfers with my radio. does any one know how to reduce the pump noise?

has your antenna been tuned? is your sheilding in good condition and the antenna firmly grounded? where is your CB power coming from? are the connections tight and clean?

IIRC, there was a TSB and/or recall a while back about adding some capacitors to the fuel pump circuit due to static noise in the stereo speakers. this would probably help your CB as well.

i dont know how to tune the whip, but the power is off the batt. w/ a filter, good ground connection, no breached wires, and all connectors are clean and tight.

do you know how and the location for the compacitors or diodes in the fuel pump circuit?

i would start by tuning the antenna. you can either take it in to a radio shop and have them do it, or buy a $10 meter and do it yourself. its pretty simple.

an antenna that isnt in tune will be suceptable to outside interference. you also wont get the range you should be getting and its hard on your CB primarys.

i dont know the location or specs of the capacitors as i never had to install them myself. you might be able to get ahold of your local ford dealer and ask them.
