I just want to know how the 4.0s are running in new Rangers. I've had experience with a 94 and a 99 and i'm wondering if the newer ones are better. The ones i've driven have been a bit sluggish on throttle response and never seemed too "tight" when operating if you know what i mean. Any input would be appreciated.

if your talking about the SOHC, it has considerably more get up and go than the old OHV's youve been driving (went from 160 HP to over 200 HP). the SOHCs also have the ability to rev a little...something the old 4.0's dont really do (puking out shortly after 4 grand or so).

I've got about 50'000kms on mine and not a single complaint. Throttle response is good, lot of hp, good torque and runs as well today as the day I bought it.

I've got some "issues" with it but that's just stuff that I want to change for more power-throttle body, intake, exhaust etc...

the ohv will get off the line but the OHC will not stop pulling,

The SOHC has alot more power in the newer vehicles. i now have an 06' with 5 spd tranny and i cant keep the tires from rolling in first gear if i smash it but i also have some parts on it that arent stock :D

the sohc motor for 98 and up and mostly the same, same power output, design

My 4L SOHC motor runs fine now, but it has the "death rattle" (timing chain/tensioner problem) so I don't know how much longer that will be the case....
