Obviously broke... but what is it?

So I'm dropping the transmission for a clutch replacement. Pull up the shifter and find this
Obviously broke... but what is it?


Don't know what its supposed to look like but I get curious and unscrew the torx bolts to find bent metal rings and broken plastic

From inspection it is obvious that the rubber/plastic washer/bushing is broken. Am I right to say that it was originally part of the bronze cover disc?
Does it need to be replaced?

I've been searching through the technical library all day, can't believe I missed this
 
Will any of those broken plastic pieces fall down and screw up anything in the tranny?

They actually use a "revision" that an aftermarket company came up with. Instead of wavy washers they use a solid shim to take up the slack and provide a tighter feel to the shifter. So far I have had no problems and actually think it feels better.
 
By the way those plastic pieces can have a damaging effect IF they block the flow of an oil passage in the front of the transmission. If you're dropping the transmission then definitely pull off the top cover and get out everything you can find. You can get a little more in depth with your cleaning but I have no idea as to how good you are at taking things apart.
 
yikes. I thought it would be easier to just get the bushings from ford. Not so. There parts lady quit so the guys are running around like chickens with their heads cut off and then just the bushings (2x wavy, straight, plastic) cost $43 with tax. Didn't even include the metal cover. Should have listened to Rboyer. I'm going to go see if I can get a refund.

I've got the top open and I'm so happy at how good all the gears look. Make me proud. But there were no plastic bushings left in the shifter, which i can only assume they fell into the chamber beneath them. If I take the extension chamber off will it be easy enough to put it back on? I'm not going to start pulling out gears but I do want to check the bottom of the shifting chamber for debris.

Wow i got my kit from ford with all six pieces or so for fifteen bucks.

Got bored. Went ahead and did this. DID find plastic but I don't think that this was all of it. I'm thinking since I drained the fluid when it was cold, could I fill it back up when done with the clutch, get it warm and drain it again just to try to get more dirt and particles out. Does this sound like a bad idea? Also what can I use to seal the transmission back up, silicone?

Hey, so, a little OT here but kind of related...I see shifter bushing kits for M5OD's but what about a kit for an FM145? Are these even made? I've searched around and can't find anything.
