locked in but no 4x4

Ok so i was wonderin the other day when me and some friends were muddin at a contruction site, if you have the hubs locked in, but the four wheel drive isnt ingaged what will it do? Is it bad to do that?

It will do nothing significant and no, it isn't bad. Even on pavement.

You can do it the other way around as well, which gives you an effective low range in 2WD that you can use in good traction.

Yep, no problem.
Many people leave the hubs locked in all winter (so they don't have to get out each time) and just engage the 4x4 when they need it by pulling the lever (or pushing the button, in some cases).

With several 4x4's I've left the hubs locked for three or four months at a time.

Though If I have a long highway run to do I'll unlock them to save a little gas.
