My Ranger is throwing this code. PO171

The code reader calls this too lean on bank one.

What does this mean?

What are the fixes for this?

What is the mass air flow sensor?

You may be getting unmetered air from somewhere...the fix would be to stop the leakage, could be as easy as a gasket. The MAF measures the air flow and it all goes into calculations to make good (optimum) combustion. Any air that gets in without being measured will cause lean conditions. May take a good look at plugs to see if you can visually see signs of the lean condition.

Check this link for few ideas,
