I have a bone stock 1997 Ranger XL 2wd,

I was looking at the aussie locker and decided since you dismantle pretty much everything it would be a good time to upgrade to disk brakes. Upon more research I came accross doing a swap from an explorer as the cheapest.

so my question(s):
will the axle just bolt right up?
will wheels from a 2002 Wrangler Sport Fit?
or am I just better off sticking with the stock rear and drums?

The 8.8" rear end in '95+ explorers with disc brakes are common. The 31 spline axles are stronger and would take any beating the aussie locker can dish to them.

The explorer axle will not bolt on. You need to remove the spring perches from the axle and weld new perches to the top. You will also need to relocate the shock mounts.

The bolt pattern is 5x4.5 (just like your current axle)

If you have the 8.8" rear end factory and are on a budget, lock the stocker.

I just heard of some issues with the backspacing of the jeep tires,

If I was going to purchase a salvaged 8.8 what is a good price?
