i've done some studying and found out there are several different types of 9" rear ends.

Five different 9" housings

-'57 passenger car with a smooth housing
-a mustag, torino, couger with a tapered tubes
-'79-'81 lincoln Vesailles housing (rare, it is often equiped with rear disc brakes)
-a full size Ford housing for cars such as galaxie, ford wagon and Ltds with a 26" wide housing
- for full size Fords such as torino and rancheros with a four link suspension and has a 23" housing

Four different center sections (pumpkins)

-WAR case which is weak and least desirable
-stantard C4 or C& case
-nodular-iron stock Ford case which can be identifiable by a large "N" or casting number C4AWB
-starange engineering nodular-iron center witha Currie aluminum "Daytona" pinion support

Five different gear carriers (differentals)

-stock open
-ratcheting Detroit locker
-Ford trac loc
-Curries billet-steel TSD limited slip
-Auburn cone-style Posi

I didn't know there were so many choices and this is just stock can't even imagine after market.
