I have a 1992 Ranger 2WD, and I've been flirting with the idea of switching out the rear axle to get rear disc brakes. I know the most popular (for all I know, ONLY) option is to replace it with the rear axle out of a 95-01 Explorer. My question is this: Is it possible to swap out the rear axle from an FX4 Ranger, and then find a disc brake conversion kit? I was just wondering since the FX4 Ranger axle is pretty much the same size (8.8, 31 spline) as that from the Explorer. If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

its not cheap but its an option. they have kits for the 8.8 that are cheaper. im assuming you have a 7.5.

I haven't checked the axle code, because in 14 years of owning my Ranger, for whatever reason, I've never crawled under the rear axle, but I'm assuming I have a 7.5 rear end. Its a 92 Ranger 2wd with a 3.0. I can't imagine it having anything other.
