My trans in my 1994 Ranger with a 4.0l 4x4 5-speed elec shift t-case, was run without fluid and the first gear on the input shaft is melted and the gear below on the cluster is also melted. I would like to do my own rebuild, but need some adivse from some of you experts. I have a good facility with a lot of tools. I have rebuilt a couple other trans with the help of the factory shop manual. I think i could probably do this one with a little help. Does anyone know of online shop manuals or step by step instructions, and also a good source for rebuild parts. After being run without fluid is a rebuild even feasible. all parts look ok except for the two gears that melted. Thanks in advance for the help.

By the time you're all rebuilt and ready to go, you will have sunk in as much, if not more, money into it than buying a rebuilt tranny from a shop. That way you get a warranty(usually 12 months) and a core refund.

As soon as I read that the cluster gear and the imput shaft gear was shot, I know that DIY'ing it yourself will cost big bucks. Trust me, I was down this road with my T-5, buy a new one.

x2 on buying a new one. Just get another from a 4wd 4.0 and slap her in. M50D-R1's are pretty easy to come by.

Saving that tranny is going to cost a ton.
