stupid question i guess......but there is no such thing as a stupid question right???
O and manual trans. only (cant do it with an automatic...duh:D).

The reason im asking is cause my friend ('91 Ranger 2.3L) pop starts his truck cause he has a bad starter...hes only done it like 3 times this week and the starter just died on Monday. He's getting a new one this Monday..payday for him:yahoo:

eh i dont think itll hurt anything its not like ur popping while going down a hill at 50 mph lol

I do it when my battery dies on me sometimes :)

I did it when My exhaust was fawked up, TO SHOOT 6 FOOT FLAMES OUT THE SIDE!!!!

Edit: sorry, didnt answer question. It can be hard on the clutch depending on how long it's partially engaged or how hard it hits when disengaging.

I have to do this from time to time to. When I looked it up online last time the only thing I could find was that it might clog up your cat faster. Is this true?

I have also gotten in a debate with a friend of mine who thinks it is really bad for it to do it in reverse? I haven't seen any information to back that up. and don't know why it would be any different. Anyone have any input on that either?

I used to have to do it everyday in my old montero and I did it for 3 months to get to work and back. never any problems... (with the clutch anyway)

The driveline has slack, axles, rear end, trans. If you suddenly "snap" the slack out of the driveline, the possibility of breaking things increases greatly. Not recommended to do on a continual basis.:)shady

can't be any harder on it than dropping the clutch at 4 grand.

Just get it rolling, put it in 1st gear, and drop the clutch (key on of course). I have heard about doing it in reverse being bad too, but I don't see why it is... Maybe I'm overlooking something?

I guess because people say reverse is the weakest gear.

use 2nd or 3rd gear
ease out on the clutch, takes the slack out slowly, dont just side step it.
when it starts quickly get back on the clutch to keep it from bucking.
