so i blew a timing belt on the freeway, wasn't sure what it was but when i got home, i removed the cover, and the belt was in 3 pieces.
today i have it all taken apart, i've done timing belt's before on my vw's but not on a ranger, i have the chilton and haynes books, so i know about lineing everything up. the problem im having is i can't get the bolt to break free from my crankshaft drivebelt pulley. also i have 2 broken teeth right behind the pulley, not the timing belt pulley, but the sprocket between the crankshaft sprocket and the crankshaft pulley.

how do i get the crankshaft drivebelt pulley bolt to break loose.
and where can i find the replacement crankshadt drivebelt pulley/sprocket.

I think you posted in the wrong section this is the 2.9 v6 forum. I am assuming bye your info that you have a 2.3. I dont know the 2.3's that well but are you sure there's broken teeth? what your talking about sounds like the tone ring for a crank position sensor and it should have open areas so the computer knows where the crank is. have you tried using and impact gun on the crank bolt? You may want to take this to a mechanic if your not familiar with what your doing.

ive heard of guys placing a breaker bar on the bolt and propping it up against the drivers side frame rail, then bumping the starter to break the bolt loose. its dangerous and you could potentially break/bent something...so try at your own risk.

Use a cheap breaker bar (e.g., Performance Tool), and it will break first.

But I haven't had any trouble breaking that bolt loose the "right" way (by hand).

You'll need a harmonic balancer puller. There are threaded holes in the HB to accept it. Thread the center bolt back in a few turns first!

DO NOT use a jawed puller unless you really don't like your harmonic balancer.
