Hey all. I plan on doing an engine swap to a 1998+ Ranger in the distant future. The engine/parts will come from a 1999+ Explorer. Now, if I were to buy both in running condition, how hard will it be to put the engine from the RANGER (4cyl, or V6) into the Explorer when I'm done so it can either..

A) Be driven by me, or B) Be sold to recoup the costs of the build?

Like Bobby said, it realy easy to put the Explorer into the Ranger, sure ought to even easier to go the other way. I wouldn't go with a 4 banger thou. Explorers lot heaver from what I remember.

I wont be doing a 4cyl swap, the 1999-2001 V6 Rangers work perfectly with the project I want to do.

Definately going to be costly, that might delay the start of the project until I can get some funds saved up post college. Right now is the information collection and organization stage. I want to do this right, the first... or second time. :icon_welder:

Couple of us said it's doable, but not sure how cost effective it would be when you are done. Seems like a like of work to do a double swap, dealing with wiring issues twice. I'd just get a late model one without the PAT's and go from there.

I can't see how it wouldn't be cost effective, since instead of having an Explorer that would be sold for parts, and eventually scrap I would have an Explorer that is drivable and could either be sold or kept for a Daily Driver.

I so wanna see an exploder with a 4 cylinder :headbang:

.....

Actually right now there is an exploder with most of it's engine littered around the floor in my garage. There also happens to be a nice 2.3 just sitting on a stand waiting for a vehicle to put it in. Hopefully I don't get their paths mixed up... :shok:
