How to install oil pressure gauge?

I have a 1996 Ranger XLT 5 speed 2.3L. I have read about how the stock gauge doesnt read correctly and stuff. I wanna buy an aftermarket gauge. It will come with a sending unit. The Gauge. Would i replace the stock sender with the one that will come with the gauge? Or would i be able to use the stock sender?

You should be able to use the stock sender. Is that gauge electric or mechanical?

I'm gonna guess electrical by the way the sending unit looks. And im guessing your about to say that mechanical ones are better.

I already have a JDM tach that looks the same. I wanted to keep the gauges the same style. Are electrical ones inaccurate by alot?

No. They are just fine for everyday use as long as your not racing nascar or anything lol. They arent off by much. Most of the time theyre right on.

i put a mechanical one in an the nylon tubing it comes with gets kinked so you gotta up grade to the copper tubing. they have some sunpro electrical ones at autozone for 30 bucks too.

NO, you cannot use the factory sender for an aftermarket gauge. the factory sender is just a switch. if you use it with your new gauge, the gauge will function much like the old one.

you can remove the stock sender and install the aftermarket one in its place. if you want your stock gauge to continue functioning along with the new gauge, you can purchase a "T" to install both senders.

electric gauges arent inaccurate enough to matter, the major problem with them is they are unreliable. ive never seen or heard of a mechanical gauge failing, electric gauges fail all the time.

ive been running nylon tubing to the mechanical gauge in my truck for over 5 years now.

The electric VDO in my VW is still working. It was installed when I bough the car in 1993. On the other hand, try working on a ship some time and you will find some broken mechanical gauges

I prefer mechanical.

i never said mechanical gauges dont fail, and i never said electrics cant be reliable.

but on the whole, mechanical gauges are more reliable than electric.

I got my Equus oil pressure and water temp gauges at Wal-Mart for just under $10 apeice.
