Are these radiator fin probes decent or garbage??? I havent been able to find a spot to put a normal sensor for my E-fan and was wondering if this was an ok option. Its a 99 3.0 Ranger 4x4.
Thanks
Beef

Personally, I run a radiator probe with a rubber cap to protect it from falsly reading oncoming air tempurature. This has worked flawlessly so far. But, if you can, go with a normal coolant tempurature sensor.

Ive never seen one, let alone used one, can you put a a pic of how yours is set up???
Thanks

I don't have a digital camera so I will have to borrow one from a friend. What I did was inserted it about 3" down and 3" left of the very top corner (so it can read the hottest temp). Then, I slid a rubber sleeve that resembles a 1" long vacuum hose cap. This came with my Flex-o-lite electric fan kit.

you just press it between the fins??? it doesnt mess them up???

The find have some give to them, it won't hurt anything, its such a small area.

I've seen the probes used with success before aswell.

It will contact the fins and spread them less than 1/16th of an inch. The rubber cap also keeps the probe from backing out. The probe itself is about 1/4 inch in diameter by 2.5'' long.

I can get you a pcture of mine if you would like.

If I was doing it over (I may still) I would go for the sensor in the coolant flow not in the radiator fins.

That would be great triumphrider, i may still use a sensor in the coolant flow, just weighing my options.

I have one in my 84 turbo ranger and it seems to work well for me.

Here are a couple of pictures of it (they suck, I know):

It is located about 5/8 inch off of the side and center with the inlet tube.

been using one for over 4 years, never any problems.
