:icon_idea: I was thinking (which I dont do to often) with the demand of everyone doing a 4.0 swap to there trucks. From what I have read is that its mainly usen the harness out of the donor vehicle maken a few mods to it and then pretty much plugging it in and buttoning it all up. Some one who has already done the swap a few times should be pretty good at doing it and doing the harness for it. Youd think someone would gather up a few harnesses to start with and repin them and get them pretty much ready to go and make a direction/instruction sheet looking at there own truck and selling them to people whod like to do the swap. I know in my opion and 5-6 people ive talked to that want to do the swaps had asked if I knew of anyone who would be interested in maken the mods to the harness and all so when it was time it was pretty much just bolt in hook everything and maybe have to make a change here or there that couldnt be done with only the one harness and being done. Its just a thought but it seems like it could be a decent little profit for a side job. Or am I just thinking off the wall again and should just shutup and think of something else. LOL :icon_rofl: :icon_confused:

i would prolly be interested in buying one of those when i decide to do a 4.0 swap.

The problem is that the connectors to the truck were changed just about every other year. There are about 6 different harnesses for a 2.9/4.0 swap. I have everything that I could build a couple of them but, I don't have anyway to test them to make sure they are right. If your vehicle had just one wire different, It could cause a serious problem.

I can understand where you are coming from, but...............................................
What happens to the guy that makes/takes the time to do the harness and someone who doesn't have the general knowledge to add air to the tires tries to do the swap, and ends up totally FUBARing their rig and sues the harness maker? Or they order the harness, he makes it, and then they back out after looking again at a swap they should have never even thought about? Its a good idea, but there are somethings that people need to figure out on their own. I have done a 302 swap in my own 84 Ranger and I used things that others didn't. I used a C-6, most don't. I used Holley Pro-Jection, most either go EFI(for crawler/trail pig) or carb(street/strip). To many variables to a lot of swaps. I understand your talking about the 4.0, but sometimes things aren't always black and white.

Mutant Pony and BLOODBANE are right on the money. Too many variables, and it just ain't worth it to make harnesses for other people. Especially when the guy making the harness can't see everything for himself on the truck end. It is a good idea, 1988broncoII; but it's just not really practical.

i have done dozens of swaps.

the 4.0 is the worst thing of the older stuff to work with...the pcm calibs and harnesses change multiples in some years.

i quit.

but, if you have a way to tune your own pcm's it can be narrowed down pretty small handy variables. generally though with the 4.0 you can get the pcm and harness with the donor so its pretty cake doing it that way. so i wont invest in the cost of equipment or time to skill such things for the miniscule profits involved.

the later gms have the same issues as far as differences in calibs and wiring but they also have a easy cost effective system available to hook them up. swapped some 5.3/6.0 in jeeps and pickups with the later stuff and its awesome.

i figured there would be a universal setup for the 4.0 10 years ago as its such an awesome little motor but the racng guys just now seem to be dealing with it the last few years:dunno:

Ahh cool I was just wondering if itd be plausable to do something of that sort. I think thats why I dont think that much. Nothing ever good comes of it :icon_rofl: But it was worth a shot. So I think im gonna go have a  and try not to think lol thanks guys

Part of the beauty of thinking thoughts like this is that some day you may stumble onto an idea that is worth plenty of money...so keep thinking...give up and you become just like all the other sheep in the flock...and that can be a baaaaaaaaaad thing...

I'm a black sheep:icon_twisted: I don't think like ANYBODY else!

Yea mutant i can tell by your display pic lmao and yea it could be a baaaaaaaaad thing :icon_rofl:
