About 18Mo ago I went out and my 89 ranger would not start. (sounded like it was gargling metal) I finally talked my wife into letting me replace the engine. Going to the parts stores, two of them said an RV cam was an option for the engine. My mechanic says there never was one made for the 2.9L. Who to believe? If it is available is it worth the extra $200?
From my experience (I've ran an agressive cam) and what other engines are available, I probably would be reluctant to do it again due to lack of aftermarket and it's notorious oiling and head cracking issues. But I did have a lot of fun in the process.
