Im puttin a 99 5.0L n tranny out of an explorer into a 96 ranger and i was wonderin if there is a cheaper but not too difficult alterative to buying a $600 adapter to put my t-case back on. (for example a part time t-case that bolts up to the tranny)

Is your 5.0L Motor/4RW70 Transmission 2WD or 4WD?

If it is AWD, the AWD TC can be removed, and a 4406 TC will bolt right up.

If its 2WD, and adapter will need be obtained.

its AWD, I thought all 5.0L were AWD.
So what has the 4406 in it, and I'll prolly have to change out my driveshafts right?
also, wont that screw up my spedometer too

No, the 5.0L was MOST COMMON with an AWD transmission, but 2WD was available too.

The Expeditions and F-trucks had 4406 TC's in them.

No, it won't screw up your speedo. A body lift may be required to clear it.

There are articles on ExplorerForum about the swap.
