Today i took my 2000 ranger with the 4.0l auto 4-spd tranny up diggin. i don't know what happened but once i got back down the pavement the tranny was actin up like crazy. It would go through first gear, shift into second then once it got up to shifting point in 2nd gear it would rev up real high.

It was acting like it was dropping back down into first gear (which i'm pretty sure it was). As many of you know, first gear doesn't really engine brake, it kinda coasts in neutral (at least mine does) until you get on the throttle. That's how it was acting. THe O/D off light was flashing, also.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? i was worried so we took it down the the ford dealership to have it looked at.

The flashing OD light means there is a stored fault code. First is to get the code read to tell you where to begin looking.

When you say took it up diggin? What does that mean exactally? How were you using the truck when it started?

i was up in the hills kinda by my house goin through some puddles. nothing to serious that would beat it more than usual. I took it to the ford dealership and they said that it is the valve assembly in the tranny. other places say it is just the gasket in the valve assembly or a solenoid. the cheapest place we've found is about $580 for the fix. Let's hope it works!
