so over the weekend i swapped out my d28 for a D35 i got from a 94 ranger.
well everything went ok except now my frontend is sitting really low and im almost on the bump stops. i have leveling springs on it already. my question for the front is the drive shaft is about an inch to long and i knew that but how much of a lift would i have to put on it to avoid shortening the dshaft?

the other question is on the 8.8 the bolts are 3" apart and on the Dshaft there 2.5" apart. can i fab up my own plate to adapt it or how do i go about doing it? i know i could have a new Dshaft made but i really dont want to spend that much money.

also the parking brake is totally different on my 88 then on the new one how should i rig that up? im no master fabricator i can handle some stuff but dont have the tools.

any help would be great

thanks Hans

Can't tell you why the frontend is lower after the axle swap, dimensionally everything is the same (other than the 35 is about 1.5" wider total).
Is the toe alignment OK? (severe toe-out could cause it to squat when you drive forward).

IIRC, at 4" lift and above, the stock front driveshaft should work, but check it with the suspension at full uptravel and make sure it doesn't bottom out the slip-spline.
You can also shim the axle forward an inch or so at the radius arm bushings, as well.

As for the rear driveshaft, you don't need a whole new shaft, you just need a different flange adapter for the rear u-joint (you may also be able to drill and tap new holes on the 8.8 axle flange as well. The centering pilot is the same diameter).

Did you attempt to use your original D28 steering linkage?

the D35 is WIDER and requires different (longer) steering linkage

As for the rear axle flange?

How about some more detail, tell us about your truck?

All 8.8" axles have the larger flange but specifics about your truck will
give me a clue to tell you how to deal with the problem, as each Ranger
configuiration needs a different solution for proper driveshaft mating

hint, it's easier to swap the rear yoke adapter (The square piece that is
on the U-joint)than the flange on the axle)

well my truck is an 88 ranger std cab long bed... I have a 3" body lift and skyjacker leveling springs on the front. The rear drive shaft is bolted to the transfer case with four bolts and bolted to the 7.5 with four bolts 2.5" apart... The 8.8 I want to put in is from a 94 ranger that has two sets of four threded holes with 3" in between them... My problem is I don't know how to put the yoke from an 94 ranger on my 88 the u joints are different sizes. I work at an autozone so I pulled out a micrometer and measured them the 88 u joint is way smaller then the 94... I don't know where to go from here aside from taking it to a driveline shop and shelling out a bunch of money

What about using a U-joint that has two different cap diameters? Since you're already at Autozone you should be able to find the correct one easily.
