i have a 89 2.9l rang 4x4 whith a 5 speed trany. when i drive a round town the motors remains quit but on a back road where i stay a constant speed for about 15 20 mins the motor stars to tick but it will stop after 3-5 mins and start ticking again or if i stop and excearate and go through the gears the ticking gos a way. i have put new lifters, head gasets, and adjusted the valves but it did not solve my problem. when it is ticking i dont knowtice any change in the way it drives or no power loss it just makes a ticking noise i am lost on what else it could be causing the noise any i deas or experance with this problem i could use your help ps. sorry im a bad speller:sad:
 
most of the 2.9s tick after a while, not really sure why, one theory is that just the way the engine is designed that the oil stays up top on the engine and doesnt flow back down as easily. check out the Tech Library here and it will give you some more info. Just for some insurance alot of people add an aftermarket oil pressure gauge because the one on the dash is just a switch which tell you that you have oil pressure or you dont. right around 40 psi is good pressure
