I got a 03 ranger edge with the 3.0 and manual transmission, i have a access to a 91 explorer with a 4.0 and manual transmission, would the swap be worth it or should I find a newer explorer.
if i was going to go through the hassle of an engine swap, i would go the extra little bit and do a 5.0. the power increase between 3.0 and 4.0 is just not worth it IMO (some will disagree with me, and thats fine).
your year of truck is particularly easy to swap in an explorer 5.0. check the tech library for details.
lol... i come from the other side of that line. you have to think of what you want out of it. and what your trying to do. if your looking for slightly modded 5.0l power your not gonna be happy with the 4.0l if you really think the 4.0 is all you need there are some bennys to using the 4.0l IE all the parts you could ever need are all ready made new and used. wiring harness cross members ect.
its up to you at this point.
Putting an explorer 5.0 in will be easier than a EEC-V 4.0. Anytime you cross the 1994-1995 model year boundary, you end up doing a major electronics swap as 1994 down has EEC-IV and 1995 up has EEC-V.
A EEC-V 3.0 to EEC-IV 4.0 is completely not worth the wiring swap. An EEC-V 4.0 might be worth the swap, an EEC-V 5.0 definately would be.
