Ok guys. I am new so dont be too hard on me, but i need to know something.

In the process of getting my block stripped down on my 2.3 (88 model)
an there is a metal canister type piece located just below the intake. has "s" shaped hose connected to it. How do i remove it?????
I tried gently prying it off but to no avail. I noticed there is a tin panel riveted to the block inside the crankcase.

Do i need to remove these rivets and maybe there is bolt holding this "canister" on??? Please advise...

Much appreciated!!

Justin

That is pressure fitted...you should be able to pry it off...it may be rusted in place, even though there is plenty of oil around it...I've had a bit of a time getting them out but they just pop right off...try twisting it away from the block with a pry bar a few times back and forth...maybe spray some penetrating oil around the base...it will come out...

Hey thanks!

So when it comes off.... do i buy new one or can i reuse this one?

I guess that depends on how damaged it gets...I replaced mine after cleaning out the gunk of the replacement...they can get pretty fouled up...run some gasoline through it and use a screwdriver to scrape out what you can see before putting it back on either way...they are part of the breathing system to vent the crankcase...very important for engine longevity...

Ok good deal, will be carefull and see how it goes...

Another question. The tin plate on inside crankcase held on with 3 rivets..
does this need to come off before i take block to machine shop??

This is my first rebuild so i dont know much.

Thanks..
