M5OD Overfull and 1350 low?

Went to change the fluid in my M5ODR1 and the fluid was above the fill plug by quite a bit.

The 1350 tcase was low.

How could the fluid get from the tcase into the trans, and why?

Is there a seal that needs replacing?

I used copper Permatex for the seal between trans and tcase.

I dont believe its supposed to be able to get between them... There is a seal on the input shaft of the t-case. IIRC the fill plug on the t case is lower than on the tranny so if anything it would flow the other way... You do know to use ATF in both the M5OD and the T-case right?

Correct, there is a 'dry' area between both tranny and tcase with a seal at both ends and the two shafts couple together in there. Strange to me cause Toyotas have oil all through the setup. Prolly somebody overfilled the tranny. Check your tcase rear output seal for dampness. If their is fluid dripping from the tranny tcase coupler area then there is at least one bad seal in there...that could also be where your tcase fluid went.

You sure? I know on my fm146 and the A4LDs are both "open" at the back and all fluid drains out of the trans when you separate the t-case from the trans.

Nate's right, the area between is dry, or at least its supposed to be. However, even if both of the seals were leaking, it wouldn't make it into the transmission. The chances are that someone overfilled the tranny, and the t-case leaked a bit.

Change the fluid in both and forget about it.

IIRC the M5OD is the only RBV 4x4 transmission that has an output shaft seal.
All others are wide open.
