hey i got a 87 bronco 2 with the 2.9 i know this engin has been over heated a number of times and im having nothing but problems with it i replaced the ignition moduel and block heater put in a new batt and still it only starts when it feels like it and i know everyone says thoes engins tick but i think mine definitly is a unhealthy tick it almost sounds like a desil sometimes. so what does everyone think is it worth it to keep trying to track down problems in the 2.9 or would it be better to just throw in a 4.0 i dont have much mechanical knoledge but i have friends that i could get ot help me throw in a new engin what kind of problems will i run into with putting in a diff engin?

not many problems will arise by puttin in a 4.0 especially seing as the 2.9 and 4.0 share the same bolt pattern on the tranny mounting look into the tech library fo more info

Find another good running 2.9L and put that in. I've sold 3 for about $100/ea so they can be had pretty cheap.
A 4.0L swap in an 87 is an involved swap as there are alot of splices to be made.

look for the inertia switch on the passenger side floor board near the shifter bypass the switch and connect the two wires together, thats probably causding the no start issues
but that siwcth is a safety feature so if it is bad replace it with a new one
