Hi All

94 Ext cab, 4.0L, 5spd, Ext Cab, Pushbutton 4x4.

I followed sticky for diagnosing the 4x4 system and everything pointed to the electric motor being bad.

I got another one from the U-Pull&Pay salvage yard today but when I installed I still had the same issue. Nothing happens when I press the 4x4 button.

I pulled this one from a 94 Explorer. I hate to keep spending money swapping these out over and over.

Is there a way to bench test the motor to see if in fact they are both bad?

Any other thoughts from anyone?

Thanks
Bill

Yes, I followed the diagnosing sticky that details how to check the fuses, control module, current flow to the motor etc. and everything pointed towards the motor.

I'd like to check the motor itself if it's possible.

Thanks
BIll

Umm, try the section in the above link that says:

Cleaning & Testing The Shift Motor (1994 & Older):

tap it with a hammer (not a 10 puond sledge...lol)
they stick for some reason........worked on my dads 88.

On my 94 b4000 I pulled the motor and spun it with a screwdriver then it worked better. Next I pulled the motor apart and cleaned everything and I havnt had any problem since.
